Mahfil is a transnational duo exploring the shared roots of Indian and Persian classical music through deep listening and collective memory. While their sound may echo contemporary fusion, Mahfil’s essence lies in returning to origin, where rhythm, melody, and storytelling transcend borders. The duo brings together Ali Seif (Iran/NL), a multidisciplinary artist shaped by Persian folk and cinematic soundscapes, and Dink Rupa, a tabla player of the Lucknow gharana and longtime disciple of Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri. Grounded in classical tradition yet open in form, Mahfil creates immersive performances where ancient modes and intricate rhythms meet in a living, breathing dialogue.
